Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, Kapernaum (“Chaos”) tells the story of Zain, a Lebanese boy who sues his parents for the “crime” of giving him life. Zain, a gutsy streetwise child flees his negligent parents, survives through his wits on the streets, takes care of Ethiopian refugee Rahil and her baby son, Yonas. The film can ignite emotional intensity, surprise with unexpected tenderness, and inspire with flashes of poetic imagery. Kapernaum is ultimately a hopeful film that stirs the heart as deeply as it cries out for action.
The film is in Arabic with English subtitles
Following the film will be a discussion between:
- Rania Maktabi - Researcher, University College Østfold
- William Paintsil - Head of Migrant Training and Integration, IOM Norway
- Nora Hidoussi - Adviser, the Norwegian Directorate for Integration and Diversity (IMDi)
