Intercultural Competence Training

IOM will on 22-23 October 2018 offer a two day training in intercultural competence and communication in Oslo. Registration is now open.

This training will focus on providing tools and knowledge to develop intercultural competences, diversity sensitivity and communication skills when dealing with people of different cultural backgrounds. The training will be organised in a highly participative way based on the interaction and involvement of all participants, and will include preparatory reading and exercises, theoretical presentations, discussions in plenary, case studies and workshops.

Speakers:

  • Professor Adil Qureshi (Psychologist, Transcultural Psychiatry Program, Institute for International Education Studies, Barcelona, Spain)
  • Dr. Antonio Chiarenza (Coordinator of Regional Health Promoting Hospitals (HPH) Network of Emilia-Romagna And Chair of HPH Task Force on Migration, Equity & Diversity - TF MED, Italy)
  • William Kweku Paintsil (Head of Resettlement & Cultural Orientation Unit, IOM, Norway)
  • Ane Elisabeth Haaland (Expert on Strategic Communication, University of Oslo, Norway)

The training is part of the ‘TRAIN4M&H - Provision of training for first-line health professionals and law enforcement officers working at local level with migrants and refugees program’ funded by European Commission’s Directorate General for Health. The project will develop or reinforce the skills of professionals working with migrants and refugees, promote understanding, positive attitudes, and promote a holistic approach in the work with migrants and refugees.

Limited number of spaces available. There will be a possibility for two people to share a place (Day 1 and Day 2 attendance). Priority will be given to participants working with migrants, including healthcare professionals, trainers and NGOs.
